This was a fun craft for the kids. Who doesn't love the Grinch and his adorable dog, Max? I've seen a lot of handprint Grinches around, but I couldn't find any of Max so I just kind of made it up. For the Grinch I painted the palm green and the four fingers red (I didn't paint the thumb at all) and made a print. For the dog, the thumb and pinky (pinkie?) finger were painted dark brown (for the ears) and the palm and three other fingers were a lighter brown. And I made the print upside down. When the prints were dry, the kids added cotton balls to the Grinch's hat, yellow eyes made from construction paper, and drew in a nose and smile.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

For Max I cut out an "antler" and the kids glued it to the top of the dog. I drew in a little bow. Then they glued on white ovals for eyes and drew in the nose and mouth. And just to make it a little more festive, they drew a curly line all around their paper and added colorful fingerprints for Christmas lights.<br />

My daughter really likes <i>Vampirina</i>, a new show on the Disney Junior channel. So I quickly came up with a craft for her and a friend to make. We used a small paper plate for the face, painting it with a mix of white and purple paint with a touch of blue. When it was dry we added the facial features and hair. I cut out hair and bat-wing pigtails, as well as eyes, fangs and little pink pigtail holders.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiifWTqKhuzea4do7twJD3qw3OXpOw05OPYIUt5tfUsV35d3H0fKbV7xt0cnGtCCNB6JYDvsH-wDhdL19NGg34ir2498stHx17azDnnuoB4jlO67Y0hmT_fPxXlIuENJAiRV0RgOyWrtx-A/s1600/vampirina+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1403" data-original-width="1600" height="350" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiifWTqKhuzea4do7twJD3qw3OXpOw05OPYIUt5tfUsV35d3H0fKbV7xt0cnGtCCNB6JYDvsH-wDhdL19NGg34ir2498stHx17azDnnuoB4jlO67Y0hmT_fPxXlIuENJAiRV0RgOyWrtx-A/s400/vampirina+%25281%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
The kids used a glue stick to attach everything. The pigtails were glued onto the back of the paper plate and I later added tape to secure them even more.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoof2twdR1AzePOhsk7_jaLnhWOx89zhugxlusu5tUrHojVW5Un3jmNYaCW_po7Dg3lzwPL-Abr2ijnvFAT8h8jm8lIogfu3DbVrUpsiCiI7TK92pwv5nC9pSaanXkqReXHS_QIjjyJtIf/s1600/vampirina+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1507" data-original-width="1600" height="376" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoof2twdR1AzePOhsk7_jaLnhWOx89zhugxlusu5tUrHojVW5Un3jmNYaCW_po7Dg3lzwPL-Abr2ijnvFAT8h8jm8lIogfu3DbVrUpsiCiI7TK92pwv5nC9pSaanXkqReXHS_QIjjyJtIf/s400/vampirina+%25283%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
They used a black marker to make eyelashes, eyebrows, a nose and a mouth.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOe7uaaECTlY-yoC9aEtArRZ18H2CidKfUaqL57HVYwU5D6rmYLeQHO3uGamDjLq1yrgsKl2vXWZJS1nE_MDxztgIl9_8-r1tgJ2d0WR8rGUOfTOfZfgA2U1Hz4BKSqpvKUklNLSUlHDp4/s1600/vampirina+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOe7uaaECTlY-yoC9aEtArRZ18H2CidKfUaqL57HVYwU5D6rmYLeQHO3uGamDjLq1yrgsKl2vXWZJS1nE_MDxztgIl9_8-r1tgJ2d0WR8rGUOfTOfZfgA2U1Hz4BKSqpvKUklNLSUlHDp4/s400/vampirina+%25282%2529.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
The pigtail holders were glued onto the hair, but I think it would look better if they were glued onto the actual pigtails. The reason I didn't have the kids do this was because I was planning on having the other side of the plate be a regular bat. (In the show, Vampirina can change from a little girl to a bat.) The pigtails would be the wings so I didn't want the pink holders to show on the other side. However, we never ended up doing that because the Vampirina craft already looked like a bat.<br />

I added a large craft stick (from <a href="http://craftprojectideas.com/" target="_blank">CraftProjectIdeas.com</a>) so the girls could use them like puppets. The pigtails actually flap like wings when they play with it. It's quite cool! And for that reason I recommend using black card stock paper so the bat-wing pigtails are sturdy. They turned out so cute and the girls have been playing with them for days!Betsyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17813144709372927909noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3929902694316967059.post-51739013561335880422017-04-13T21:34:00.000-05:002017-04-13T21:34:46.389-05:00Silhouette Bunny ArtHere's a fun and easy Easter project for the kids to do! Cut out a bunny shape and tape it to white paper. Use Do-a-Dot markers to stamp around the bunny, making sure to overlap onto the bunny's edges. Feel free to add some dots "floating free" around the bunny as well.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Peel off the black bunny and you are left with a beautiful bunny silhouette!<br />

I only taped the black paper in two spots so it would be easy to take off, but that means some of the ink got under it. Maybe using a thicker paper would help. I used black construction paper and white cardstock paper. When I had some kids do this project I had to remind them to make dots all around the bunny shape so you can see an outline when you take the black paper away.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijW27WdP89c8RNx6kPXfCavSeRS4HYSLFeQ6q4DvJMcus67FPGYLpXVNmlcJeWRGo4Nnp0xe37X6hevz2mtG7QmT0I4FPo-fMf_T8UR9I6AdSAYCvPbtvnH8gjyAXkFItoKTNuvxoc-s-N/s1600/bunny2+%25285%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="277" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijW27WdP89c8RNx6kPXfCavSeRS4HYSLFeQ6q4DvJMcus67FPGYLpXVNmlcJeWRGo4Nnp0xe37X6hevz2mtG7QmT0I4FPo-fMf_T8UR9I6AdSAYCvPbtvnH8gjyAXkFItoKTNuvxoc-s-N/s400/bunny2+%25285%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I traced my bunny template onto white cardstock and the kids marble-painted it with bright colors.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZPE3QgkQsCBtoeEIIgUT5ksLnmtHxE0CgWvjNof94geZ7osQARNwpOoEYH-R6GpW5VYJFnJdaLXNyl6m0OxF_tgdQvpacVdW_4bxAqObN6Zp1d4uNrztieF6xVaSz3c2pWLbqxMvJVbXQ/s1600/bunnies+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZPE3QgkQsCBtoeEIIgUT5ksLnmtHxE0CgWvjNof94geZ7osQARNwpOoEYH-R6GpW5VYJFnJdaLXNyl6m0OxF_tgdQvpacVdW_4bxAqObN6Zp1d4uNrztieF6xVaSz3c2pWLbqxMvJVbXQ/s400/bunnies+%25281%2529.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
I used a colored marker to outline the bunny so when I cut it out it would have a border. But it also helped me see where to cut when the paper was covered in paint!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR4hsJ9pGWxvqnlQ8qMRdeo-nhpzHOY19MFb_KSTn7NznHn8cTujLU3vBre0_d4ePFdCoF0rXFujdSYSblgCwF1zJOs2CnZWY0aLJTyjYVLxGz53NWxa3jCmFWA7QriI75eNIpFX8oHY_V/s1600/bunnies+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR4hsJ9pGWxvqnlQ8qMRdeo-nhpzHOY19MFb_KSTn7NznHn8cTujLU3vBre0_d4ePFdCoF0rXFujdSYSblgCwF1zJOs2CnZWY0aLJTyjYVLxGz53NWxa3jCmFWA7QriI75eNIpFX8oHY_V/s400/bunnies+%25282%2529.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
The kids picked out a little pom pom to glue on for the tail.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKM2qx9KV9rKLd3Q_ZFOU6Ik2tNEjF5EHBMp9GUkOFwylnM06UA1bT2DSro8xS9C6655Nm9sg5Yyy15jQcvz7seaBCHzD4VPllprVuy8813Q0xv7raTBs5OfNPiFs3Db-1eUIbXykeUDic/s1600/bunny2+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKM2qx9KV9rKLd3Q_ZFOU6Ik2tNEjF5EHBMp9GUkOFwylnM06UA1bT2DSro8xS9C6655Nm9sg5Yyy15jQcvz7seaBCHzD4VPllprVuy8813Q0xv7raTBs5OfNPiFs3Db-1eUIbXykeUDic/s400/bunny2+%25281%2529.JPG" width="246" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuRqkc8_gY5yDtaMhAtQYwK3GbV7eMZwL9d_3HdV1hZ1UiMBysHNOqZy8mYaK-eXIHckOlJT1WP4WtqtGI-JmKxqvSofaHsS_a42cirqu2g8JuPPqBWwtsffA5jNNbJBfEeClBMi_0iXiD/s1600/bunny2+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuRqkc8_gY5yDtaMhAtQYwK3GbV7eMZwL9d_3HdV1hZ1UiMBysHNOqZy8mYaK-eXIHckOlJT1WP4WtqtGI-JmKxqvSofaHsS_a42cirqu2g8JuPPqBWwtsffA5jNNbJBfEeClBMi_0iXiD/s400/bunny2+%25282%2529.JPG" width="281" /></a></div>
They would also look good glued onto another piece of paper, either a bright color or even black.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjytXb9ohQFuc5cAfaw-MycfYwkRleE1ukAuZSi5OF42UzNejgWWQAyP-283UnNVE9n_kFRUUeOqy5oSTwl_dlTtMICLH8f7fyT1kd-atyOXVJ0bB2NBHHLb2lzNPxi66-jBKAB43Vvckm1/s1600/bunnies3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjytXb9ohQFuc5cAfaw-MycfYwkRleE1ukAuZSi5OF42UzNejgWWQAyP-283UnNVE9n_kFRUUeOqy5oSTwl_dlTtMICLH8f7fyT1kd-atyOXVJ0bB2NBHHLb2lzNPxi66-jBKAB43Vvckm1/s400/bunnies3.JPG" width="243" /></a></div>
But I decided to leave them alone. I did, however, end up using the rest of the marble-painted paper because it was too pretty to throw away. I glued it onto another piece of paper and added a cotton ball for the tail. This way each child had 2 bunny crafts!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Just be sure to cut the bunny out carefully, only making one small cut on the bottom that can easily be hidden.<br />

Last year I shared <a href="http://tippytoecrafts.blogspot.com/2016/01/snowman-suncatcher.html" target="_blank">snowman suncatchers</a> that were made by painting a paper towel and framing it with black construction paper. This year I decided to use Do-A-Dot markers and boy, they did not disappoint! We chose to make hearts for Valentine's Day. First you make some dot art on a white paper towel.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqpMkfebxWlElWV4eVIcTA4voulyxHy2rr1TXOGVy70qHaOk5AaLp4rnhOJ1hASB2WiwYMp0R4t3geh3eE5aA-a35-BUbZ_BB4VvsZ30QjAkGw1FWP4CoM-g67wlgvotQUG7dR_0phqFru/s1600/dot+art+suncatcher+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="358" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqpMkfebxWlElWV4eVIcTA4voulyxHy2rr1TXOGVy70qHaOk5AaLp4rnhOJ1hASB2WiwYMp0R4t3geh3eE5aA-a35-BUbZ_BB4VvsZ30QjAkGw1FWP4CoM-g67wlgvotQUG7dR_0phqFru/s400/dot+art+suncatcher+%25281%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
The more dots, the better!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEganWuA1abpNuCfrYrTWbYtZUF-JkSCYB6VGQTgZBoTLtIiAt68LOqGdOxCm_-LiyPZSHPHlS0PlSon-pfsu7od8vPsuQAwOOTO_Fbq0JiBLl3QTj0kS6XtlejnhQwQRYpDNmikh0a4_6z3/s1600/dot+art+suncatcher+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEganWuA1abpNuCfrYrTWbYtZUF-JkSCYB6VGQTgZBoTLtIiAt68LOqGdOxCm_-LiyPZSHPHlS0PlSon-pfsu7od8vPsuQAwOOTO_Fbq0JiBLl3QTj0kS6XtlejnhQwQRYpDNmikh0a4_6z3/s400/dot+art+suncatcher+%25282%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
When they are dry, cut a heart out of black construction paper. Save the heart for a different project and glue the remaining paper onto the paper towel. Hang in a sunny window and enjoy!<br />

I love it with the black frame! This year we made our snowmen with dot markers as well. Faster, brighter and easier than using paint!<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5CyW0mBhUNH2t4GEyUW4VhALiVws2DKZ3I68QzXOAhPpQ74Lt6GMdDaFqyqmSi_7dJCO8-vtcR0-qHZbczb8b91j089hZcxvm7OJ3Q16LvuXgL4JxQmOQa32a4vGNijVYpQv1Ph5Fc0OU/s1600/igloo+prints+%25288%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="305" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5CyW0mBhUNH2t4GEyUW4VhALiVws2DKZ3I68QzXOAhPpQ74Lt6GMdDaFqyqmSi_7dJCO8-vtcR0-qHZbczb8b91j089hZcxvm7OJ3Q16LvuXgL4JxQmOQa32a4vGNijVYpQv1Ph5Fc0OU/s400/igloo+prints+%25288%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
My daughter and I made really "cool" igloos by painting a piece of bubble wrap and making a print. I got the idea from <a href="http://www.craftykidsathome.com/i-is-forigloo/" target="_blank">Crafty Kids at Home</a>. You want to have your paper ready before you paint. We used blue cardstock with a strip of white on the bottom for snow. Then draw a simple igloo shape on the smooth side of bubble wrap and cut it out. Have your child paint the bubble side with white paint. We used a sponge brush.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfw80PbNL89johlzasVYEFlHu9nMIpMwKgSbQdxbyhbMK_0DUX97TPq350-JoFD1e7jjppdhvNFZeQYJeRVTriqMjFb8qobhtZKBjEX0v8HVCF4B2nslqWvhiBhtB7cSIxoLonskT5SWqb/s1600/igloo+prints+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfw80PbNL89johlzasVYEFlHu9nMIpMwKgSbQdxbyhbMK_0DUX97TPq350-JoFD1e7jjppdhvNFZeQYJeRVTriqMjFb8qobhtZKBjEX0v8HVCF4B2nslqWvhiBhtB7cSIxoLonskT5SWqb/s400/igloo+prints+%25282%2529.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
Quickly flip the bubble wrap over onto the paper before the paint starts to dry. Press down gently without moving the bubble wrap around.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5TZAdqsveh3M3FSODTE_0C93iJvhQXMwfryBQh2Go80wna0WkjvHQ8TOaVarFghrvibVnvBoE5JiZlIszdVV_OHekSRvWCPTvLJgT7o5i5girxID4Ymci7EAyqdFyoNjui764qhBAOFLp/s1600/igloo+prints+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5TZAdqsveh3M3FSODTE_0C93iJvhQXMwfryBQh2Go80wna0WkjvHQ8TOaVarFghrvibVnvBoE5JiZlIszdVV_OHekSRvWCPTvLJgT7o5i5girxID4Ymci7EAyqdFyoNjui764qhBAOFLp/s400/igloo+prints+%25283%2529.JPG" width="346" /></a></div>
Then carefully peel off the bubble wrap. We also made snowflakes with a Q-tip dipped in white paint. And to finish it off, we added a snowman sticker!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKdt47nxnxdBmMnY-Or8btX874ZukSELgSC6XVJ_myFoBjqfuvDA37HloO-wcMLtN011xGQA5UV9W52S32icjCEImaAphqK8AVw7xvbgGQBUiEPisMrZ8myfl9IOQliqciUdXHWRdQpW0H/s1600/igloo+prints+%25289%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="293" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKdt47nxnxdBmMnY-Or8btX874ZukSELgSC6XVJ_myFoBjqfuvDA37HloO-wcMLtN011xGQA5UV9W52S32icjCEImaAphqK8AVw7xvbgGQBUiEPisMrZ8myfl9IOQliqciUdXHWRdQpW0H/s400/igloo+prints+%25289%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I traced around the igloo with a white crayon just to define it more. I also liked how it looked without painting the bubble wrap. You could just glue it on your paper and the glue would dry clear.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibaJYbKs_4_Unq6HN5b-PDd7_DI_Saka6Uy855FppgF_M6U-8k7jopBLF9zDUNv5u9COSGcapkU-c-z2b8v8yPAAH9CYn-3ONAdebFB9jAivE5eXNwCOg6zO1VGtzHIpD5uDundH7Sn1Hg/s1600/igloo+prints+%25284%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibaJYbKs_4_Unq6HN5b-PDd7_DI_Saka6Uy855FppgF_M6U-8k7jopBLF9zDUNv5u9COSGcapkU-c-z2b8v8yPAAH9CYn-3ONAdebFB9jAivE5eXNwCOg6zO1VGtzHIpD5uDundH7Sn1Hg/s400/igloo+prints+%25284%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
But the painted print does stand out more.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglDp0c0LIh4G69nT37TRUswDX8pU6XsVQGbhu0Sx3WZFTI0j1hWUdPi6TWvOYFcgjbljm8wbMCzTXdHlpPRRSfxn3X3Gu4efZHdOCt37KYTlauW0BUrC4gQ9LORb9C3ym0p_Gam1bbvfyl/s1600/igloo+prints+%25287%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="305" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglDp0c0LIh4G69nT37TRUswDX8pU6XsVQGbhu0Sx3WZFTI0j1hWUdPi6TWvOYFcgjbljm8wbMCzTXdHlpPRRSfxn3X3Gu4efZHdOCt37KYTlauW0BUrC4gQ9LORb9C3ym0p_Gam1bbvfyl/s400/igloo+prints+%25287%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Make sure you check your bubble wrap for popped bubbles. Sometimes a whole row will be flat and won't leave a good print. Have fun adding all kinds of things to the scene!Betsyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17813144709372927909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3929902694316967059.post-85663205035947261052017-01-15T17:25:00.000-06:002017-01-15T17:25:53.285-06:00Paper Towel SuncatchersI recently bought paper towels with Frozen characters on them. I thought my daughter would like to paint them. We had Anna, Elsa and Olaf.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk0HRMv4ODc8h8xDdmEAv7ZbGlJTqjQRxN155kyQI9dU6w_jU3KVHOnGwz0A_uRIT8u1QEp9J0JVFrHG3pHWarN3N-ZypjvJdAWssH-zQ6IrPjKFZQp9iMJX7ZNQAzqjf2CgLMxHxYX43O/s1600/PicMonkey+Collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="151" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk0HRMv4ODc8h8xDdmEAv7ZbGlJTqjQRxN155kyQI9dU6w_jU3KVHOnGwz0A_uRIT8u1QEp9J0JVFrHG3pHWarN3N-ZypjvJdAWssH-zQ6IrPjKFZQp9iMJX7ZNQAzqjf2CgLMxHxYX43O/s400/PicMonkey+Collage.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
I decided to trace Anna and Olaf with a black Sharpie to make it easier for my 3-year-old, but I left Elsa alone because I was curious which would look better.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghA1kHgq4lpsMva_hDIQMnmMKS3y4ZQoYumr5WWMFOfnll2ACeOajuw6i8EYKZHZuQMlY1rnRHmX0ATcnnWeA9F9ThKROGs634yTU_gE4nqAyAk7apZWLyWeUpr4Gv_PK-rNxEZhso_2hU/s1600/PicMonkey+Collage2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="199" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghA1kHgq4lpsMva_hDIQMnmMKS3y4ZQoYumr5WWMFOfnll2ACeOajuw6i8EYKZHZuQMlY1rnRHmX0ATcnnWeA9F9ThKROGs634yTU_gE4nqAyAk7apZWLyWeUpr4Gv_PK-rNxEZhso_2hU/s320/PicMonkey+Collage2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I experimented with a couple different paints to see what worked best. I had regular watercolors and glitter acrylic paint which I received from <a href="http://craftprojectideas.com/">CraftProjectIdeas.com</a>. We started with Olaf.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFkRY4q35V1kvOP-AjmTy6HuSUs9JjiPsLMqMxMeHl8FJL_7AbCg6QvQhM7HS1k37-v_zvGLOeHwQkANCpY3-KwS5iKwJhY_lX-fwyUEx3zl46W2sFsWVAHuwm9BwQwhW4-ZHQySDUHJtB/s1600/frozen+suncatchers+%25286%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFkRY4q35V1kvOP-AjmTy6HuSUs9JjiPsLMqMxMeHl8FJL_7AbCg6QvQhM7HS1k37-v_zvGLOeHwQkANCpY3-KwS5iKwJhY_lX-fwyUEx3zl46W2sFsWVAHuwm9BwQwhW4-ZHQySDUHJtB/s320/frozen+suncatchers+%25286%2529.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
The watercolors were brighter, but they needed a lot of water. We kept having to dip the brush in water in order to get the paint to spread. The glitter paints were easier to work with, but often quite pale so we needed a lot. When she was done painting, I thought it would look neat hanging in a window with the sun shining in.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRQ5xiGmqxNAWJDHZX7r_-RwnLg9Rmx19hCwHj4C_KhFXgaW0aYzRPEDcnA1psfpwRE1kN3kEYg3Owf5ySFy5hX0dik6XLLhTQRjdkdsdk-SB0HfuW3ZKOhXZbIVogcWv0au1wcnGcPhYa/s1600/frozen+suncatchers+%25287%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRQ5xiGmqxNAWJDHZX7r_-RwnLg9Rmx19hCwHj4C_KhFXgaW0aYzRPEDcnA1psfpwRE1kN3kEYg3Owf5ySFy5hX0dik6XLLhTQRjdkdsdk-SB0HfuW3ZKOhXZbIVogcWv0au1wcnGcPhYa/s400/frozen+suncatchers+%25287%2529.JPG" width="286" /></a></div>
By the time we got around to painting Anna and Elsa, my daughter had enough so she only painted a few parts and I finished them.<br />

I like how the white acrylic paint actually shows up!<br />
And as always, it's so hard to get a good picture of a suncatcher, but they really are pretty in the window.<br />

If you don't have prints on your paper towels, you could always draw your own design with a Sharpie!<br />

Here's a cute and fun way to make a peppermint candy! We made a marbled candy using shaving cream and paint, but you could decorate the candy part any way you'd like.<br />
To get the marbled look, spread out shaving cream on one paper plate.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHexZfRgv4tdWmLj_vt_lnpm1QIB_FjEHpVmnA2kePCLAnWfg8O8JGr1TehAEoafU6xyVR90W2gQ_5uGY4IGCWsMs5jgh1YrFTKP1-U4tJe-jPH-5S8pAdVq0v6omRW5lHnAfrly49nWVb/s1600/peppermint+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHexZfRgv4tdWmLj_vt_lnpm1QIB_FjEHpVmnA2kePCLAnWfg8O8JGr1TehAEoafU6xyVR90W2gQ_5uGY4IGCWsMs5jgh1YrFTKP1-U4tJe-jPH-5S8pAdVq0v6omRW5lHnAfrly49nWVb/s320/peppermint+%25281%2529.JPG" width="281" /></a></div>
Add drops of paint (or food coloring) and gently swirl them around using a toothpick or craft stick.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsHXO25WZxCpdA46nDNDiHk0hNAGrZe_glTfokUbmrm25e6XoQnopaxsMR9LAYhswTwmwQ6vfQnAZ4bwicI_ePfG7-aw6Bx0uyjy7k2r3sbtgYSj7o5627zAv2RZv71cTSqNbBfEwL556q/s1600/peppermint+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsHXO25WZxCpdA46nDNDiHk0hNAGrZe_glTfokUbmrm25e6XoQnopaxsMR9LAYhswTwmwQ6vfQnAZ4bwicI_ePfG7-aw6Bx0uyjy7k2r3sbtgYSj7o5627zAv2RZv71cTSqNbBfEwL556q/s320/peppermint+%25282%2529.JPG" width="310" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBK3019ZPQYaF8r0daSHS0Y1LvUK6l5SG3vjP9_GTpT8Z-I6fpkFaJ0NA-mYUYCpUVDwH_rCMvEEs64cAEV1JOOgF5DWj8rtem-py0xozdVvgpMB_PfiGm19gYyt2axJDUpRPoOPmg7zsN/s1600/peppermint+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="301" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBK3019ZPQYaF8r0daSHS0Y1LvUK6l5SG3vjP9_GTpT8Z-I6fpkFaJ0NA-mYUYCpUVDwH_rCMvEEs64cAEV1JOOgF5DWj8rtem-py0xozdVvgpMB_PfiGm19gYyt2axJDUpRPoOPmg7zsN/s320/peppermint+%25283%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Then put another paper plate on top of the first and gently push down.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDYPQ7EIkCFKPTFcyLcBoIMM3yjx8WMS9rnTuxS_fM4A41XsiVXylZrGMXjljcXiUT0R0clzBKh9SlTgHtFDm_7VKbXXIc6nYU3m3lMxitSrDdZ1Hecn2URS3u2UfaHpQkRzJ1qimhBYYu/s1600/peppermint+%25284%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="319" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDYPQ7EIkCFKPTFcyLcBoIMM3yjx8WMS9rnTuxS_fM4A41XsiVXylZrGMXjljcXiUT0R0clzBKh9SlTgHtFDm_7VKbXXIc6nYU3m3lMxitSrDdZ1Hecn2URS3u2UfaHpQkRzJ1qimhBYYu/s320/peppermint+%25284%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Separate the plates,<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyf33vFbe7ajiKH_-mWnLaRyADpTmdyQl3fRGCdhxW-2zxQVq9GZlaglS9rGUxB8xGdByit4o1W8MVYBv_ozILAL7wekdWSX-E4ZWrXyqW3dMvNWkhVlYn8pLROTqxqrUngApFubVQfo8L/s1600/peppermint+%25285%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="205" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyf33vFbe7ajiKH_-mWnLaRyADpTmdyQl3fRGCdhxW-2zxQVq9GZlaglS9rGUxB8xGdByit4o1W8MVYBv_ozILAL7wekdWSX-E4ZWrXyqW3dMvNWkhVlYn8pLROTqxqrUngApFubVQfo8L/s400/peppermint+%25285%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
and use a craft stick to scrape off the shaving cream from the plate that was on top. You are left with a beautiful design.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEip5CUKFds1HGUny3ijq-CmvChoQz15KZw7DKGJfoeMyWqSc6QNELYsQA0XXCZ-DwTOQeNpSlCx_A4SQEJLTi1Nbw19xkoiWYFzC6LiQ8gaVPp2ToLKeSzlg78a_P8z0ILjPKEySFWiOg0S/s1600/peppermint+%25286%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEip5CUKFds1HGUny3ijq-CmvChoQz15KZw7DKGJfoeMyWqSc6QNELYsQA0XXCZ-DwTOQeNpSlCx_A4SQEJLTi1Nbw19xkoiWYFzC6LiQ8gaVPp2ToLKeSzlg78a_P8z0ILjPKEySFWiOg0S/s400/peppermint+%25286%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
To avoid too much smearing and mixing of colors, wipe the craft stick off after each scrape. Or just use one color of paint. When it's dry, cut out the middle circle of the plate and glue it to construction paper. Add white hand prints to the sides to look like the wrapper.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEjbc0rFaHNhqqOSe3-VENSS4MYRpfkd7eUMPnw1D7_U7iaDv9O-YmYfpbjnXYXyhL4C2hss21CMg20hkIjm2RV36f6f919Gn9_evpHyzBZhQI_72RjSD3aeXqDhbk7QWVjMTdkWFtppcd/s1600/peppermint+%25287%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="290" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEjbc0rFaHNhqqOSe3-VENSS4MYRpfkd7eUMPnw1D7_U7iaDv9O-YmYfpbjnXYXyhL4C2hss21CMg20hkIjm2RV36f6f919Gn9_evpHyzBZhQI_72RjSD3aeXqDhbk7QWVjMTdkWFtppcd/s400/peppermint+%25287%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>

You could wrap it in plastic wrap or add some ribbons to the sides, but I think it's cute as is!Betsyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17813144709372927909noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3929902694316967059.post-76135613129731112932016-11-21T22:21:00.000-06:002016-11-21T22:21:21.510-06:00Pasta Footprint Turkey<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here's a fun, cute and quick turkey craft for you! Paint your child's foot brown and make a print. When it dries, have them glue tri-colored pasta on to make the turkey feathers. Add a beak, eye and snood. I helped out by putting the glue on the paper for the kids so they'd know where to put the noodles. (I was planning on having it be a front-facing turkey, but every child's foot had a high arch, so I thought it looked better to have the turkey facing sideways and just put the feathers on one side.)<br />

We've been having a little problem with birds hitting our front windows lately. It used to happen a couple times a year, but recently it's been happening a couple times a week. We have some feeders near the windows and we don't want to move them because they are fun to look at (and the cats really enjoy it as well!). I've noticed black bird decals on windows of some buildings and at the zoo, so I thought we'd try that at home. Of course, I wanted something more colorful. So I found a flying bird template (<a href="http://www.clipartbest.com/clipart-7TaRj5b7c" target="_blank">here</a>), printed it out the size I needed, and traced it on black construction paper. Then I traced around it, about 1/4" away from my original tracing. I cut along the outside line first, then along the inside line so I had a nice thick outline of the bird. I put it on the inside of a laminating sheet and my daughter filled it in with colorful tissue paper squares.<br />

We didn't use any glue. Everything just sat on top of the laminating sheet. You can also use contact paper, but I like how the laminator makes it extra glossy. She covered the entire inside of the bird.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We didn't worry about staying inside the black outline because it was getting trimmed after it was laminated.<br />

Only one side will have the black outline, but you could always use a Sharpie to draw in an outline on the other side. I didn't mind. I just made sure the outline was facing in when I hung them in the windows. I also decided to hang up the black bird that was cut from the middle. The display looked beautiful this morning!<br />

Yes, that is a squirrel down there eating all the leftovers! And no, I didn't wash my windows before putting them up. Don't judge me! We ended up making a couple more today for the bottom windows as well. Hopefully we won't have any more feathered friends flying into our windows!<br />

Here's a quick and fun craft for Independence Day. You'll need Kool-Aid, Q-tips, a spray bottle filled with water, and thick white paper. We used construction paper, but it curled when it got wet so card stock paper might be better.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjadSWoydF5SGTAN72dkc6mqQuw4JOYKlBTFWdR-uCPLAj_R5ywSXOLwdw-o9srmD6fNK3beZKyU4bVXUj-ixlbFD3m109fbFyKLTpKI_aw7eUuvpI6x4Fc_OIgnNG_lZp66vP9EiozafuL/s1600/koolaid+fireworks+%252814%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjadSWoydF5SGTAN72dkc6mqQuw4JOYKlBTFWdR-uCPLAj_R5ywSXOLwdw-o9srmD6fNK3beZKyU4bVXUj-ixlbFD3m109fbFyKLTpKI_aw7eUuvpI6x4Fc_OIgnNG_lZp66vP9EiozafuL/s320/koolaid+fireworks+%252814%2529.JPG" width="250" /></a></div>
I chose red and blue Kool-Aid for the holiday, but any colors would look great. First you take pinches of Kool-Aid powder and drop them on your paper in small mounds.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpQdpjD9o2qWpbqKB8mA9yFo5jZKudzTOvfSQzhHcFJtAN0nHlyB-ywUNlqua_TkCNyeFzPLvOjv_owCstTkLdmSUvLyxLhkCPNSupC-rvq9IiMz9gxU_Wll9ZMA58B0zR6ypwJ70KrzFK/s1600/koolaid+fireworks+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpQdpjD9o2qWpbqKB8mA9yFo5jZKudzTOvfSQzhHcFJtAN0nHlyB-ywUNlqua_TkCNyeFzPLvOjv_owCstTkLdmSUvLyxLhkCPNSupC-rvq9IiMz9gxU_Wll9ZMA58B0zR6ypwJ70KrzFK/s400/koolaid+fireworks+%25281%2529.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
Then you use a Q-tip to spread the powder out into several small lines.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtyH3IOXEe_Bx12uBctMjuNwidnfWTBkh4RSDVdXoCyUpl7u3-EX1R31P57O5RPqC_AXXx3azDhkY_tieN1e1F7ytPPBXD52vzDnz58BONfnVCFpZX8h9snPC69p37QMEcOqdb9ZbJnrFi/s1600/koolaid+fireworks+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtyH3IOXEe_Bx12uBctMjuNwidnfWTBkh4RSDVdXoCyUpl7u3-EX1R31P57O5RPqC_AXXx3azDhkY_tieN1e1F7ytPPBXD52vzDnz58BONfnVCFpZX8h9snPC69p37QMEcOqdb9ZbJnrFi/s400/koolaid+fireworks+%25282%2529.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
Just start in the center and pull it out. Add a slight curve to the line to make it resemble a firework bursting. Then spray your paper with water from about a foot or two away. The colors burst to life! (Pun intended.)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgerl1XFiR0s1W9Z-QB-EpCo94UyalkJeKwAYuvzkAXoSnhUewIDmb24tADRxkeLkfoMIORbhEJz24vGGgtb8GHfksGLR7lfO3ufLWsPcHmn5bU5T9I8EyEkNWSJK_Q47dwZzuzl_KwfhcQ/s1600/koolaid+fireworks+%25284%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgerl1XFiR0s1W9Z-QB-EpCo94UyalkJeKwAYuvzkAXoSnhUewIDmb24tADRxkeLkfoMIORbhEJz24vGGgtb8GHfksGLR7lfO3ufLWsPcHmn5bU5T9I8EyEkNWSJK_Q47dwZzuzl_KwfhcQ/s400/koolaid+fireworks+%25284%2529.JPG" width="293" /></a></div>
The more water you use, the more it will blend and dissolve so it's up to you how much you want to use. I don't like using a lot because the powder gives it some texture. I have a mixed age-group in my care so for the older ones (3 and 4 years), I told them to try to make the bursts. They did great!<br />

I ended up doing about four sprays, making sure all the powder got wet.<br />
For the younger child (2 years old), I just let him sprinkle the Kool-Aid on his paper and then I sprayed it with water. Still cool!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaFaDZpW9M8oKjS5OtZzdzwXjxOvnSIV3gwHdUpxUSdVBVbclsYGEPNLwk2C0GZ-iIlFo_L41-0t4h897iavcN_qGwX5UVZwOf5zB8NbcVgB3WUz4CLnUYUI-pa8ttqyHymsDXF9JCrLYa/s1600/koolaid+fireworks+%25289%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaFaDZpW9M8oKjS5OtZzdzwXjxOvnSIV3gwHdUpxUSdVBVbclsYGEPNLwk2C0GZ-iIlFo_L41-0t4h897iavcN_qGwX5UVZwOf5zB8NbcVgB3WUz4CLnUYUI-pa8ttqyHymsDXF9JCrLYa/s400/koolaid+fireworks+%25289%2529.JPG" width="370" /></a></div>
And it smells great! But it will stain the fingers, so keep that in mind. Because it's made with Kool-Aid and it's summer, this isn't a project you want to hold on to for long. It's sticky and ants will be sure to find it. So enjoy it for awhile and then toss.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

So first they used watercolors and painted the middle of a paper plate. (You don't have to use a plate, but I wanted something thicker than regular paper and the plates worked very well.)<br />

I think if I was still in my classroom with older kids (4 and 5 years), I would've had them pick three colors and paint stripes. But for these young kiddos, I just let them paint it however they wanted. When it was dry, I cut a popsicle shape out of it and taped a craft stick to the back. Now, they are pretty cute all on their own,<br />

I've been waiting to do this craft since the fall. I had bought a pack of foam tree cut-outs from Target and it came with some brown ones and some green ones. My daughter made a fall tree with buttons (read about that <a href="http://tippytoecrafts.blogspot.com/2015/10/fall-button-tree-craft.html" target="_blank">here</a>).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSLsGqOwg8-wA1_141tcUm33vjttqTmOzzWPeEXUL6fWAF7ocadNoA1G_vR69r0TqH4vJ2aWpfKte2UmCcgmQ2X830sheibr_Nn1-Dpmo3WyIJalat-MjDRW4tNEOiIJmWdIoazKH2oXjG/s1600/tree6+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="196" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSLsGqOwg8-wA1_141tcUm33vjttqTmOzzWPeEXUL6fWAF7ocadNoA1G_vR69r0TqH4vJ2aWpfKte2UmCcgmQ2X830sheibr_Nn1-Dpmo3WyIJalat-MjDRW4tNEOiIJmWdIoazKH2oXjG/s200/tree6+%25282%2529.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>
But I thought the green tree would be perfect for cherry blossoms! First we glued the tree to a piece of blue paper. Then my daughter scrunched up pink tissue paper squares, dipped them in glue, and added them to the tree.<br />

I love how the green and pink look together!<br />
I also made cherry blossoms with the kids I care for. I painted their hands and arms brown to make a tree and they put scrunched up tissue paper on that.<br />

It was during our Dr. Seuss week, which is probably happening in many centers and schools right now in honor of his birthday on March 2nd. I read the book, <i>What Was I Scared Of?</i> and then gave the kids a cut-out of a pair of pants. They had to first decorate the pants any way they wished, then draw a picture to go with the pants.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI69I8wrtMFiMtzHW5Mra1f6vX64fSVSiKG4PVpEr0FTdrVT1rZqenrnFB4Mfw_yvgd1jYtzvdGY1TYHX_iS9NyPBWWVD6fMvZgi8TMWBsi4X04q4uS5Ei6v18BpjUfZF4ijuzjcwrZIv2/s1600/empty+green+pants+%25284%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI69I8wrtMFiMtzHW5Mra1f6vX64fSVSiKG4PVpEr0FTdrVT1rZqenrnFB4Mfw_yvgd1jYtzvdGY1TYHX_iS9NyPBWWVD6fMvZgi8TMWBsi4X04q4uS5Ei6v18BpjUfZF4ijuzjcwrZIv2/s400/empty+green+pants+%25284%2529.JPG" width="218" /></a></div>
At the top of their papers I wrote two lines from the book ("I saw a pair of pale green pants, with nobody inside them!"), but I changed "pale green" to whatever the kids wanted to call their pants. We had tomato pants, rainbow pants, ghost pants, blueberry pants and flower pants, as well as others. It was a very fun activity! During group time, the kids came up and described their pictures to the class.<br />

I'm not sure why I didn't blog about this last year when we did it. I think I had thought of ways to do if differently so I was waiting until this year when I could do it again. But since I'm not in a classroom this year, I decided to share this instead. Maybe it will inspire you!<br />

Here's what my little group of kids made for Valentine's Day!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisH-TsfC_POAmXmisQA8friyKy-tuzOa_TRKdHOoO6r5_sUHTBUnv_M0YbcZMiJFodI9cXpn7e0t8y2lXIJaIryL_5oYOCqzLZN4UtVt7I8jrCwTU3ZaO30xRJsqA-rbTi_OhGGdDIJ22p/s1600/whale+valentine+%25288%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="271" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisH-TsfC_POAmXmisQA8friyKy-tuzOa_TRKdHOoO6r5_sUHTBUnv_M0YbcZMiJFodI9cXpn7e0t8y2lXIJaIryL_5oYOCqzLZN4UtVt7I8jrCwTU3ZaO30xRJsqA-rbTi_OhGGdDIJ22p/s400/whale+valentine+%25288%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
First I cut out a simple cartoonish whale shape, without the tail, and glued it to a big piece of white paper.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMZ0uioR2nSWieaiRHkvrrLPwUHWtMQQyKTdegnHdSJWEkxPr6Hqt761yS4lFaUHc_btv4fOdW9IkNgOKT6P1SSlqaCMzo4U279vHPIYstRx7-7YyncGIPQFQVg4zWOC8lOfY9GXZSIDDa/s1600/whale+valentine+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="252" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMZ0uioR2nSWieaiRHkvrrLPwUHWtMQQyKTdegnHdSJWEkxPr6Hqt761yS4lFaUHc_btv4fOdW9IkNgOKT6P1SSlqaCMzo4U279vHPIYstRx7-7YyncGIPQFQVg4zWOC8lOfY9GXZSIDDa/s400/whale+valentine+%25281%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
(I would recommend construction paper, but I didn't have any. I used pieces cut from a roll of paper, which is why it's taped down on the corners.) I then used the kids' handprints to form the tail.<br />

When the paint was dry, I put a heart sticker at the top of the whale to indicate where the blowhole was.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghkPUy7Ohzi90e1qLEaWv8XYsLk12itl3OmKH9SQHmFcBeOxfpZ0DiACfkFp5v96XNsRJha8nuCfMlwxsvuVT8kpsgjkfy3dhjVkleVAGOI28HaCKCoX9RUpulw0AslUQD9Ckr2CD443WW/s1600/whale+valentine+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghkPUy7Ohzi90e1qLEaWv8XYsLk12itl3OmKH9SQHmFcBeOxfpZ0DiACfkFp5v96XNsRJha8nuCfMlwxsvuVT8kpsgjkfy3dhjVkleVAGOI28HaCKCoX9RUpulw0AslUQD9Ckr2CD443WW/s400/whale+valentine+%25283%2529.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
(Sorry about these horrible photos. I never remember to bring my camera so I have to use my phone for pictures.) The kids added more self-adhesive foam hearts (given to me by <a href="http://craftprojectideas.com/">CraftProjectIdeas.com</a>!) above the whale.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm2xqIZpBq6zX_6B0CAW1VpDiR-WhdRT7L1wR638sTnqpZdnXQO7Db-Ys2mlkYvBb1ORImcqV1a6h80KmRFsiW9lLLT8mW47Am-zIcSGtSBky-gfa2JUlDBDAEGuBc5vgGSDiR5fk5pzlZ/s1600/whale+valentine+%25284%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm2xqIZpBq6zX_6B0CAW1VpDiR-WhdRT7L1wR638sTnqpZdnXQO7Db-Ys2mlkYvBb1ORImcqV1a6h80KmRFsiW9lLLT8mW47Am-zIcSGtSBky-gfa2JUlDBDAEGuBc5vgGSDiR5fk5pzlZ/s400/whale+valentine+%25284%2529.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
Then they added a big wiggle eye and drew a mouth.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioDY_XCl4hBs1GCQkl6ijXuQRk5w7l7vaLClhh3VF4yYbA53jvRm7z-hkvA4gU9Mc3VxKHx_TbSc8UY_4ueU_rudSGHvWl-SCOrvzQg-MXEHbBez8PWQBPjKj-oi4Tqr0kF0djJWRxagsf/s1600/whale+valentine+%25285%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioDY_XCl4hBs1GCQkl6ijXuQRk5w7l7vaLClhh3VF4yYbA53jvRm7z-hkvA4gU9Mc3VxKHx_TbSc8UY_4ueU_rudSGHvWl-SCOrvzQg-MXEHbBez8PWQBPjKj-oi4Tqr0kF0djJWRxagsf/s400/whale+valentine+%25285%2529.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
I wrote the words, "Whale you be my Valentine?" by tracing over printed words because I don't have great handwriting.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqKzpOS0NE0uFC9YfzQYkpC8wODO6wfqU5CaU5X0xGiwouy2w_-J2o9YGL12oPdaxWJg5E3uKWHIwc4eGtFGSZ8leuF87NI3P6kUJ3EvmwN-Hz5Pan47mUXWuIzcV6sYmed3dpFz9ehdrV/s1600/whale+valentine+%25286%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="281" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqKzpOS0NE0uFC9YfzQYkpC8wODO6wfqU5CaU5X0xGiwouy2w_-J2o9YGL12oPdaxWJg5E3uKWHIwc4eGtFGSZ8leuF87NI3P6kUJ3EvmwN-Hz5Pan47mUXWuIzcV6sYmed3dpFz9ehdrV/s400/whale+valentine+%25286%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
The crinkled paper is yet another reason to use construction paper. I really wish I had it for this craft. The little one's handprints were a little tricky to get right, but it's still cute!<br />

This project was inspired by an <a href="http://www.orientaltrading.com/snow-day-thumbprint-ornament-craft-kit-a2-13669102.fltr?Ntt=footprints%20in%20snow%20craft">ornament craft</a> I saw in an Oriental Trading magazine. It was very simple to do. First the kids used a Q-tip dipped in white paint to make snow falling from the sky on blue paper.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipXgxCWjjtLChKXYj5rPk2IAc98346qOCOnvGcxFsskbM-I3Sw_E7sdU_w8pG6slVpK93p2zmtPvB1OZHm-GW9OCBi_LQuEcjwfI2dZxYbK0b4ddrjz5OUYkEGcv3JW5BrW1NQGLlaZitt/s1600/footprints+in+snow+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipXgxCWjjtLChKXYj5rPk2IAc98346qOCOnvGcxFsskbM-I3Sw_E7sdU_w8pG6slVpK93p2zmtPvB1OZHm-GW9OCBi_LQuEcjwfI2dZxYbK0b4ddrjz5OUYkEGcv3JW5BrW1NQGLlaZitt/s320/footprints+in+snow+%25281%2529.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Then I cut white paper and glued it to the bottom half of the blue paper. I helped the kids make thumbprints on the paper with blue ink. We started at the bottom and worked our way up.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBmeSqxYMDWn4tKOWzEqRn6q8059kxcBstXtf_CNPuZpL4u2hddRUdfPguHns0dvagcmYsNXdc4DQoo6IpvVazVQ0dnsEOJNUp2bbfKcyiw9ESgr9rxfJ_SpMv56ZNEraYTYAjebac5wma/s1600/footprints+in+snow+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBmeSqxYMDWn4tKOWzEqRn6q8059kxcBstXtf_CNPuZpL4u2hddRUdfPguHns0dvagcmYsNXdc4DQoo6IpvVazVQ0dnsEOJNUp2bbfKcyiw9ESgr9rxfJ_SpMv56ZNEraYTYAjebac5wma/s400/footprints+in+snow+%25282%2529.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
Then they glued on a little person at the top of the hill. I had a "boy" cookie cutter that looked like a kid in a snowsuit, so I just traced that. And I added a little point to the hood. We also added a tiny white pom pom to the tip of the hood.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-4R6jrNgfgr7z-Z7BlpLpx_Mobr4fhZ6VS2ZjSfJRkUKy-i42sPDwTSbzN62Mufc4Fcrg3eJgMKHTm3L-2KmB5rHHB6G1y1NU1QjxBbmoON-rdw6pRQKcXN3wvjDCgMe1vv9UXC-BptMH/s1600/footprints+in+snow+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-4R6jrNgfgr7z-Z7BlpLpx_Mobr4fhZ6VS2ZjSfJRkUKy-i42sPDwTSbzN62Mufc4Fcrg3eJgMKHTm3L-2KmB5rHHB6G1y1NU1QjxBbmoON-rdw6pRQKcXN3wvjDCgMe1vv9UXC-BptMH/s400/footprints+in+snow+%25283%2529.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
And that's it! They turned out cute, even if all of our little people apparently walk like a duck!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I read in the news the other day that January 20th is Penguin Awareness Day, so I knew I wanted to make a penguin craft with the kids today. I've done a few <a href="http://tippytoecrafts.blogspot.com/search/label/penguins">penguin crafts</a> in the past, but this time I decided to make a baby penguin. My goal was to make something that resembled this cutie:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzVs645ZuPxqiFXbjfPpNHQAoRzH1sAe7ZFIb-puHKTlQ84E9JRbG6mBlkZQt89qL64SHmtYi-1pW0ACtyZrjSozUDgMqrObuehrYc1KcPdBeZGkm6t9Wj49VB2OuxzRWlH4hZVlHGF28Q/s1600/penguin-chick.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzVs645ZuPxqiFXbjfPpNHQAoRzH1sAe7ZFIb-puHKTlQ84E9JRbG6mBlkZQt89qL64SHmtYi-1pW0ACtyZrjSozUDgMqrObuehrYc1KcPdBeZGkm6t9Wj49VB2OuxzRWlH4hZVlHGF28Q/s200/penguin-chick.jpg" width="161" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.emperor-penguin.com/video.html">(source)</a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I kind of used <a href="http://coloringkids.org/penguin-coloring-pages/penguin-coloring-pages-6/">this</a> coloring sheet as my template, but made it more symmetrical. I traced a body onto black paper. I cut out a white face, a black beak and black toes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmDhmsFMYMwaJDOOh615Da5vQYQVcfovRykNvvII569gOFfK9ts9plTLAszjzcHlfeEmr-BkzuPfIAebLA3hk7VI0Rmm5ZhhqW-5q4aeDzJxw_fIdirZ0KqOOY0rJU_PX5nkpFuxakeAAB/s1600/penguin+chick+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="278" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmDhmsFMYMwaJDOOh615Da5vQYQVcfovRykNvvII569gOFfK9ts9plTLAszjzcHlfeEmr-BkzuPfIAebLA3hk7VI0Rmm5ZhhqW-5q4aeDzJxw_fIdirZ0KqOOY0rJU_PX5nkpFuxakeAAB/s400/penguin+chick+%25281%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Then I made puffy paint by mixing glue and shaving cream and added in some white and black paint.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh07x5XYuJlmQMFgHtX_aguTVQ9Xbmb9u-bCBoTOZHue8Otb5Ry6q_r3v5HOSeGJZlo8eauM0utIa59pSCH6Dk8sUHTFQA_2C3oJbMb4xUqtkLlRaEMkKvafsle35e7KNg_rSgYydMwVOsb/s1600/penguin+chick+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh07x5XYuJlmQMFgHtX_aguTVQ9Xbmb9u-bCBoTOZHue8Otb5Ry6q_r3v5HOSeGJZlo8eauM0utIa59pSCH6Dk8sUHTFQA_2C3oJbMb4xUqtkLlRaEMkKvafsle35e7KNg_rSgYydMwVOsb/s320/penguin+chick+%25282%2529.JPG" width="297" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
If I had to do it again, I wouldn't bother with puffy paint. The kids used porcupine balls to paint the body of the penguin and you can't really put it on thick when using those. It didn't dry puffy at all, so it wasn't necessary. They dabbed the ball all over to create a fuzzy-looking texture. I covered up the head with a paper towel so they wouldn't paint it, but I'm sure older kids wouldn't need that.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha28dE7n3pHnyAFYMZGW8FV3CKY0Nvkdp9WkxwbeCA6f_BWmdQW0AAcIGDKRPaRHAakG8Jy7dNrEte3uulnXuJVWTkjq1zx6NwtyNeEKdq4XCddS6-O2e7QSugkRu869UWcAWBCHbb1IVb/s1600/penguin+chick+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha28dE7n3pHnyAFYMZGW8FV3CKY0Nvkdp9WkxwbeCA6f_BWmdQW0AAcIGDKRPaRHAakG8Jy7dNrEte3uulnXuJVWTkjq1zx6NwtyNeEKdq4XCddS6-O2e7QSugkRu869UWcAWBCHbb1IVb/s320/penguin+chick+%25283%2529.JPG" width="259" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOX0GCvHzVRMPqIDSSGLqOaTleaYeLNPoU93auaEaQAQfMf_gJZzusCYN4yrmg9anKmHuMlarXkM_rOREOSOvg8t3RNgRkHfSzMkBv9eWIvZ6Fboh9ZKhlpnr138meRDZih75NurCruFnL/s1600/penguin+chick+%25284%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOX0GCvHzVRMPqIDSSGLqOaTleaYeLNPoU93auaEaQAQfMf_gJZzusCYN4yrmg9anKmHuMlarXkM_rOREOSOvg8t3RNgRkHfSzMkBv9eWIvZ6Fboh9ZKhlpnr138meRDZih75NurCruFnL/s320/penguin+chick+%25284%2529.JPG" width="275" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Then they dabbed on some plain white paint right over the gray paint.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjdYdS1JnVsEEkJPRnLnhrzRXexXh6fPeIIa7Mdqv0qzWGO98c0CL-6hEjC2H3jB8lFdFeYXMDB_ZAs4ECyuDOLdYFERuW7uPFPSrD55WLraLTpb6Xf-MYEHEQcpeF8OZx4vpYUEWxSOve/s1600/penguin+chick+%25285%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjdYdS1JnVsEEkJPRnLnhrzRXexXh6fPeIIa7Mdqv0qzWGO98c0CL-6hEjC2H3jB8lFdFeYXMDB_ZAs4ECyuDOLdYFERuW7uPFPSrD55WLraLTpb6Xf-MYEHEQcpeF8OZx4vpYUEWxSOve/s320/penguin+chick+%25285%2529.JPG" width="248" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Next it was time to glue on the white face and beak. We turned the paper upside down so they wouldn't have to lean over the wet paint. And because a black beak would have been lost on the black part of the face, I made them three dimensional by folding the paper before cutting them out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_jIez6FJThFnc6CmFSpsg3v7-NNKE6PWGBCshcFt0rLObkEEgUFC_e1kKzjmGAsh6VqWwljGmI127JwVRN-rW7kulrX4dLL0LX320GRwL9iGatH-Fzeaf_Uw0QRmhCWitFrfUUUSLH8UU/s1600/penguin+chick+%25286%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="278" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_jIez6FJThFnc6CmFSpsg3v7-NNKE6PWGBCshcFt0rLObkEEgUFC_e1kKzjmGAsh6VqWwljGmI127JwVRN-rW7kulrX4dLL0LX320GRwL9iGatH-Fzeaf_Uw0QRmhCWitFrfUUUSLH8UU/s320/penguin+chick+%25286%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Then wiggle eyes were glued on. When the paint was dry, I cut them out and the kids added toes to the bottom of their penguins. They turned out so much cuter than I imagined!</div>

<i>Fun Fact: When a penguin chick hatches, it immediately starts calling so its parents recognize its voice. This is important so that when the mother or father return after getting food, they can find their chick just by the sound of its voice.</i></div>

I've always liked how paper towels look after cleaning up after a painting activity, but I've never done a project with those paper towels before. After seeing the suncatchers on <a href="http://www.simplefunforkids.com/paper-towel-snowman-suncatcher.html/">Simple Fun For Kids</a>, I just had to have my little ones make one. For this craft I had the kids deliberately paint the paper towels. I wanted to use watercolors, but didn't have any with me. I ended up using tempera paint and told the kids to wet their paintbrushes often.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX3LXJH-7ocoWSpRQCJG2vFIhktJ314Pfxr7B_SMvfWBJeveiLX8KPHRLlXGBRNkNGTa1Hw8JIwJiEZJK-ZBm5SLTSExjCW8Kdf38sW5-r2_-jiLc3jq7JrKcHjQfkmjozkFJbccu7zWmR/s1600/snowman+suncatcher+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX3LXJH-7ocoWSpRQCJG2vFIhktJ314Pfxr7B_SMvfWBJeveiLX8KPHRLlXGBRNkNGTa1Hw8JIwJiEZJK-ZBm5SLTSExjCW8Kdf38sW5-r2_-jiLc3jq7JrKcHjQfkmjozkFJbccu7zWmR/s320/snowman+suncatcher+%25281%2529.JPG" width="231" /></a></div>
I reminded them to press gently with their brush so they wouldn't rip the paper towel.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYEu71CNo1XQ-HwRIW07tKbx8xqRz9LaxmPqoZwCxUTABCYNrUDug0H57p8DMYgN1c5hiTkSOJ39kE4HE__Cguu_hrSppRsURVvK1zEI6XDY6_J6aPqLWZia3s-eGAxfhMepwgb939DLQF/s1600/snowman+suncatcher+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYEu71CNo1XQ-HwRIW07tKbx8xqRz9LaxmPqoZwCxUTABCYNrUDug0H57p8DMYgN1c5hiTkSOJ39kE4HE__Cguu_hrSppRsURVvK1zEI6XDY6_J6aPqLWZia3s-eGAxfhMepwgb939DLQF/s320/snowman+suncatcher+%25282%2529.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
And then I even sprayed the paper towel with water when they were done painting so the colors would blend even more.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQ78L8XM-Kj0rdPsfI-Itc9ZEucjxZjDLOcrdp_nl5jA7YTgVF3Sz8jrVHzx6PB9PjclzhkQlES0ENt6UYveyR2-cwUI13nXpdL2LkdPeJK3MrvoP3JRoGxN-Wi1Pgv8i30M5J-Gn0-MYm/s1600/snowman+suncatcher+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="258" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQ78L8XM-Kj0rdPsfI-Itc9ZEucjxZjDLOcrdp_nl5jA7YTgVF3Sz8jrVHzx6PB9PjclzhkQlES0ENt6UYveyR2-cwUI13nXpdL2LkdPeJK3MrvoP3JRoGxN-Wi1Pgv8i30M5J-Gn0-MYm/s400/snowman+suncatcher+%25283%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
The hard part was waiting for them to dry. They took a really long time so I ended up finishing this craft the next day. I found a simple snowman silhouette that I liked and used it as my template. I cut out the snowman from black construction paper and used a glue stick to apply glue all along the edge of the now missing snowman.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVNo8LooQsdrCU9He88dx9SBj1lxuZLHJEpRX9EEe5aU5o5RZ4Kf_3zooxGRDK-TtbrScACpMaxAEYHdtA9_jDPOxqfoZDtG8wR04RUz3flLM28MIAEIUe7ZYBAtrHGuxHCc5Jh8iNm-IT/s1600/snowman+suncatcher+%25284%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVNo8LooQsdrCU9He88dx9SBj1lxuZLHJEpRX9EEe5aU5o5RZ4Kf_3zooxGRDK-TtbrScACpMaxAEYHdtA9_jDPOxqfoZDtG8wR04RUz3flLM28MIAEIUe7ZYBAtrHGuxHCc5Jh8iNm-IT/s320/snowman+suncatcher+%25284%2529.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Then I flipped it over and pressed it onto the paper towel. Once it was set in place, I added some more glue to the corners just to make sure it was secure. They actually looked really good before they were even in the window!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkK2xzJXzWnXU9Mrmj_ARXFNheOXNQn7lNAmYLrJ4TkFLjN9hGbbWK8Jz4uqWPMlBE9xwS2CIRCnivcXvUE0TX_f0-rlZcGxbRu6Xo3dkKKYCXsGszbv-z83kmcgaoKGaZbmi2nX04d5_I/s1600/snowman+suncatcher+%25286%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="173" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkK2xzJXzWnXU9Mrmj_ARXFNheOXNQn7lNAmYLrJ4TkFLjN9hGbbWK8Jz4uqWPMlBE9xwS2CIRCnivcXvUE0TX_f0-rlZcGxbRu6Xo3dkKKYCXsGszbv-z83kmcgaoKGaZbmi2nX04d5_I/s400/snowman+suncatcher+%25286%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
And I love the design from the paper towels. I didn't think anything of it at the time we were painting them, but it added a whimsical touch to our snowmen!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtJrMr0wYEaIV8X-JnPA2aOA7uaDm4gbEGoN4i0uekDo5EqwImXGIeCMKrxniL_0HDD1vAsh0i-I-hIbEJ9U-iMP1rJZKeNJOAe1xL0yMGe4YSMOH0DYblLzVwcRKkkZFwEIe4Ayj8LmHQ/s1600/snowman+suncatcher+%25287%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtJrMr0wYEaIV8X-JnPA2aOA7uaDm4gbEGoN4i0uekDo5EqwImXGIeCMKrxniL_0HDD1vAsh0i-I-hIbEJ9U-iMP1rJZKeNJOAe1xL0yMGe4YSMOH0DYblLzVwcRKkkZFwEIe4Ayj8LmHQ/s320/snowman+suncatcher+%25287%2529.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Finally, I taped them to the window so they could catch the light. When we started this craft it was a very sunny day. So of course when we finished it, it was cloudy and even snowing. But they still look beautiful!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEQr92JIAXSQSZvWmx1_Q9L5FZdZBAohthGMeTR4MIN1KRw-Unc63WVKgnyvjC-dLBP9XYHRy5EuqecFyLR2w-pesdqONP3YyteD8bLqWwoHxXIu9S70-buXAt-mH5lz8D5-yg9VJ4pHUw/s1600/snowman+suncatcher+%25289%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="393" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEQr92JIAXSQSZvWmx1_Q9L5FZdZBAohthGMeTR4MIN1KRw-Unc63WVKgnyvjC-dLBP9XYHRy5EuqecFyLR2w-pesdqONP3YyteD8bLqWwoHxXIu9S70-buXAt-mH5lz8D5-yg9VJ4pHUw/s400/snowman+suncatcher+%25289%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
This is when I miss teaching in a classroom. I think a big window filled with these would be so pretty. I'd probably have the kids cut the snowman shape out themselves. And older kids could draw their own snowman shape first and then cut it out so each one would be unique. And if I was smart, I would have cut the snowmen out carefully so we could use them for another craft. But instead I stabbed each one right in the middle to get it started so it was easier to cut. Lesson learned!<br />

Here is a seriously simple reindeer craft my daughter and I made the other day. I got the idea from <a href="http://www.onecraftyplace.com/2012/12/15/diy-reindeer-candygram/">One Crafty Place</a>, but changed it a bit. I cut out a reindeer head shape from brown construction paper, as well as two ears. My daughter glued them onto a green piece of paper. We left the top middle of the head open so we could put in a special treat!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGmUdpLmLTh0a9YoHSc4EdpL57Go5BaISaCraEuY6hDD85BnVqez6a8VXH_GBupBzpgylnj0FvRNX6Gge7olflviUnQMWH1QPD78I_UxuAJUgrMy83C2mFofgnk4ERGL4VCIbzbZcKFG7J/s1600/candy+cane+reindeer+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGmUdpLmLTh0a9YoHSc4EdpL57Go5BaISaCraEuY6hDD85BnVqez6a8VXH_GBupBzpgylnj0FvRNX6Gge7olflviUnQMWH1QPD78I_UxuAJUgrMy83C2mFofgnk4ERGL4VCIbzbZcKFG7J/s320/candy+cane+reindeer+%25282%2529.JPG" width="237" /></a></div>
Then she put on wiggle eyes and a red nose. Instead of a mint, we used a glitter gum drop foam sticker I had bought at Hobby Lobby awhile back. And for the antlers, we used Root Beer-flavored candy canes because they were brown (and yummy!).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPQlN3BSeuLxFxHpqD25jlk5x_iHZQqFLQy0zghsbtZBjf7mYm-1i5cg3qHepyPKF7tBu_LtdA8JQqfr0F7gz53_Pm6OH4fQrHccDzVxlLHgqe7510LCLbQNHECtujOOzXMkRcMFrvFSuP/s1600/candy+cane+reindeer+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="264" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPQlN3BSeuLxFxHpqD25jlk5x_iHZQqFLQy0zghsbtZBjf7mYm-1i5cg3qHepyPKF7tBu_LtdA8JQqfr0F7gz53_Pm6OH4fQrHccDzVxlLHgqe7510LCLbQNHECtujOOzXMkRcMFrvFSuP/s320/candy+cane+reindeer+%25281%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I tucked the candy canes in and used a little tape to secure them. So fast, so easy, so sweet!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxv9tnxAv_bmBGWY5kiR9HPL_QnBjhvwvYhkNvV4lItVKqiVcB8dS-62vMJpjChvz0KrDti_2EIuI_cLlpMtDhEH1VujD1jAd14hHiHr4tyLYODW5SxDeMZ-kOz-cia6OkzE2APtZjJsrp/s1600/candy+cane+reindeer+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxv9tnxAv_bmBGWY5kiR9HPL_QnBjhvwvYhkNvV4lItVKqiVcB8dS-62vMJpjChvz0KrDti_2EIuI_cLlpMtDhEH1VujD1jAd14hHiHr4tyLYODW5SxDeMZ-kOz-cia6OkzE2APtZjJsrp/s400/candy+cane+reindeer+%25283%2529.JPG" width="285" /></a></div>
Happy Holidays!Betsyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17813144709372927909noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3929902694316967059.post-29878777682088483542015-12-05T08:21:00.002-06:002015-12-05T08:21:09.212-06:00Finger-Painted Candy CanesI was trying to think of a toddler-friendly Christmas art project, and what's easier than finger painting, right? So I drew two candy cane shapes on each piece of card stock paper.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCxg9B4Ba4MVQG8jCMVSGxY78Kj3PyL1STiWX1oJnYi5XuDWwdebzbHm0OqdBiL8Jbe7PGySMH5yu0e4BJnHNj_pN5PC0hHi1AA89I_oo0-0CJ2e4G9_y074d298QyFfwxlT2f26AeF6_u/s1600/candycane+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCxg9B4Ba4MVQG8jCMVSGxY78Kj3PyL1STiWX1oJnYi5XuDWwdebzbHm0OqdBiL8Jbe7PGySMH5yu0e4BJnHNj_pN5PC0hHi1AA89I_oo0-0CJ2e4G9_y074d298QyFfwxlT2f26AeF6_u/s320/candycane+%25281%2529.JPG" width="246" /></a></div>
<div>
Then I used painter's tape to make stripes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitTEIplWLNhSP3otGcfpakV7hP9awIjtDXmUPq9qZ2ZXvCKgF9JwEls7nwA7QWhsD8Pz2Ke2tIOfQXGu6XDJo8G5AVAlIg0mML3s_oSpWk9SoDsE2MxeuPyWSKsVR3m8RHhSmUyzHMfLIw/s1600/candycane+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitTEIplWLNhSP3otGcfpakV7hP9awIjtDXmUPq9qZ2ZXvCKgF9JwEls7nwA7QWhsD8Pz2Ke2tIOfQXGu6XDJo8G5AVAlIg0mML3s_oSpWk9SoDsE2MxeuPyWSKsVR3m8RHhSmUyzHMfLIw/s320/candycane+%25282%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
I put green and red paint on a plate and the kids used their fingers and hands to smear the paint all over the paper.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5P6G8R0Rl3aVYTf_hg7iSIr3TVh5V_1WIGX5mnPyoGxwMsKY7F8xvM_CT2OepzxNUIYOGu7HBMwhJwH41tY1Oi39Dwa11YIjQ7h-SYNIXVR-3LQCHrry257DZrbn9FaY5WavqOIiMQrkd/s1600/candycane+%25284%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5P6G8R0Rl3aVYTf_hg7iSIr3TVh5V_1WIGX5mnPyoGxwMsKY7F8xvM_CT2OepzxNUIYOGu7HBMwhJwH41tY1Oi39Dwa11YIjQ7h-SYNIXVR-3LQCHrry257DZrbn9FaY5WavqOIiMQrkd/s400/candycane+%25284%2529.JPG" width="385" /></a></div>
<div>
Even the youngest (20 months) was able to do this by himself and he loved it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbrQhpvKaMM-Opi7A930-BfzxVHwaBSnVlGvzDr_3Ung_gsNVOQBDYVjfFrwxBgDUzpM1nEDX8hgsABME4I9UGa5qFBArmeZ1pOVxye2gNGYO2Vm_pBgsOVgphyphenhyphenWcR5KzJOGBtCxhP6MEj/s1600/candycane+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbrQhpvKaMM-Opi7A930-BfzxVHwaBSnVlGvzDr_3Ung_gsNVOQBDYVjfFrwxBgDUzpM1nEDX8hgsABME4I9UGa5qFBArmeZ1pOVxye2gNGYO2Vm_pBgsOVgphyphenhyphenWcR5KzJOGBtCxhP6MEj/s400/candycane+%25283%2529.JPG" width="346" /></a></div>
<div>
It's best to get all the white spaces covered in paint, but I let the kids stop whenever they wanted to. When they were done, I immediately pulled the tape off. It came off very well for the most part. There were a few times where it tore some paper off with it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn37Ywnx3xPpCqyHs_Z8iL6Sb50tt6zjpYKWFZFiJOfDz72UQKDRUfn5nlPZPQKwA10yqNVd-Zhiqw8-9Rs6gI0DSsihQvumrBv4EJfhcWeoReD850iBH-S5m0dWV0qViTPq64NRsN4M5-/s1600/candycane+%25285%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn37Ywnx3xPpCqyHs_Z8iL6Sb50tt6zjpYKWFZFiJOfDz72UQKDRUfn5nlPZPQKwA10yqNVd-Zhiqw8-9Rs6gI0DSsihQvumrBv4EJfhcWeoReD850iBH-S5m0dWV0qViTPq64NRsN4M5-/s400/candycane+%25285%2529.JPG" width="345" /></a></div>
<div>
When the paint was dry, I cut out the candy canes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0Lzy-3yD9AcUhXqPPDGXcxpUkJ6IB1IZUpEk0_u36-Sdw4Xb4AvaXDjYl11BypUc0dXe-xD07qQzTDQTiqLcTjlugcyM78d0s4xXASVVLTx_quXbhHrcYVftzGkplJJwGWxiNelAhIWT-/s1600/candycane+%25286%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0Lzy-3yD9AcUhXqPPDGXcxpUkJ6IB1IZUpEk0_u36-Sdw4Xb4AvaXDjYl11BypUc0dXe-xD07qQzTDQTiqLcTjlugcyM78d0s4xXASVVLTx_quXbhHrcYVftzGkplJJwGWxiNelAhIWT-/s400/candycane+%25286%2529.JPG" width="276" /></a></div>
<div>
Love them! And it was so quick and easy!</div>

This cutie:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDuYJ6-Krv_oT_6JUyhXk1tQp4IdP8TaB7heozTJbxZNm3C7GJ02i3dc7lLY81KdRJjGsUo5PBBz9MCBndzGPSMPYC80HF9QGXjtrwyX3mOJ1OYw0jqY7TyDDBZ_nbh6gyZ0YFyDtLfylo/s1600/button+turkey+%25287%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDuYJ6-Krv_oT_6JUyhXk1tQp4IdP8TaB7heozTJbxZNm3C7GJ02i3dc7lLY81KdRJjGsUo5PBBz9MCBndzGPSMPYC80HF9QGXjtrwyX3mOJ1OYw0jqY7TyDDBZ_nbh6gyZ0YFyDtLfylo/s400/button+turkey+%25287%2529.JPG" width="311" /></a></div>
I knew the buttons I bought for my <a href="http://tippytoecrafts.blogspot.com/2015/10/fall-button-tree-craft.html">fall tree</a> would come in handy. I had to pick through them to find the small ones so they'd fit in the fingers of my daughter's handprint. First I traced it with a pencil then went over it with markers. I also added a beak and feet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVmB5wdIZ6EDJIRmwBV55GC0HFfEFQFXYDpAoseEyWB1APXv1_anAzAglHOjrRHi6cFWqPuH_PodjKoGtfTuG7FFkM7Y9f_U8SUr5jk6TJFvPIIrQZkxtJfpbdvO1KvMTl5UCT5JYixGLL/s1600/button+turkey+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVmB5wdIZ6EDJIRmwBV55GC0HFfEFQFXYDpAoseEyWB1APXv1_anAzAglHOjrRHi6cFWqPuH_PodjKoGtfTuG7FFkM7Y9f_U8SUr5jk6TJFvPIIrQZkxtJfpbdvO1KvMTl5UCT5JYixGLL/s400/button+turkey+%25281%2529.JPG" width="298" /></a></div>
Then my daughter helped me squeeze glue on the fingers. We worked on one finger at a time, matching the colors.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh27cLvQi8QcK-FQL1lauo5sqdKUF8T82K3ujyX4hVoCU4HHh3FHWt4-AayiyunOdP7Uojbuh9rejx63zND0A4ZwDt6maysekO1mPac-wqaqgLu8Wu_1U7OYx4eXxlz9lhrZCegmJbWO1lj/s1600/button+turkey+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="277" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh27cLvQi8QcK-FQL1lauo5sqdKUF8T82K3ujyX4hVoCU4HHh3FHWt4-AayiyunOdP7Uojbuh9rejx63zND0A4ZwDt6maysekO1mPac-wqaqgLu8Wu_1U7OYx4eXxlz9lhrZCegmJbWO1lj/s400/button+turkey+%25282%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9i6yMkORHV4Q4lcXIaX__r0biN6NUTsuTSmuyEABDz2Pr3wGOoaCNyZfgbxPNIREphpagFi1pnciC_A341Qt6v24VxQ8XpSSrIWctiK58bpMBr3A3Sui6EFeL1ZvyL_iK47erAk2YJGkM/s1600/button+turkey+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="277" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9i6yMkORHV4Q4lcXIaX__r0biN6NUTsuTSmuyEABDz2Pr3wGOoaCNyZfgbxPNIREphpagFi1pnciC_A341Qt6v24VxQ8XpSSrIWctiK58bpMBr3A3Sui6EFeL1ZvyL_iK47erAk2YJGkM/s400/button+turkey+%25283%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
For the body, we again covered it in glue first.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlqYxS-6bhYwWcmxz0XdqXzxJP5bL47wFAQQ8SrsXX_VpipXN2sRP_yrmO_qb6JkyvrdnQCEeFKX1jG1Z75kdLzNJDcYpbcs4iD3t1zNvJ5Dc9wA5lYSpkBaQ5TJcCzM4m7L7ZnrJTBeuf/s1600/button+turkey+%25284%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlqYxS-6bhYwWcmxz0XdqXzxJP5bL47wFAQQ8SrsXX_VpipXN2sRP_yrmO_qb6JkyvrdnQCEeFKX1jG1Z75kdLzNJDcYpbcs4iD3t1zNvJ5Dc9wA5lYSpkBaQ5TJcCzM4m7L7ZnrJTBeuf/s400/button+turkey+%25284%2529.JPG" width="363" /></a></div>
I found a dark brown square button, so she put that in the middle to look like a wing. Then she filled in the rest.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnOWSaHSfpLWhIp6YBOvzQty8L0ddezVenB3vahEByP1Of6kcwsRlVc6__wzi9X21QQvbGN5BxrghulGlnLDr-WRp7v25H99FQOIrDX0ZheS1X7AcMos8ao1K_EisTknSjnel3w244HoVi/s1600/button+turkey+%25285%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnOWSaHSfpLWhIp6YBOvzQty8L0ddezVenB3vahEByP1Of6kcwsRlVc6__wzi9X21QQvbGN5BxrghulGlnLDr-WRp7v25H99FQOIrDX0ZheS1X7AcMos8ao1K_EisTknSjnel3w244HoVi/s400/button+turkey+%25285%2529.JPG" width="352" /></a></div>
I added a wiggle eye and that was it!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGAyzY9XC9h9qmNJcws9LnbBpHYvns6llI29XXL0nJmWGgqEr8XIXql7I6wkHbGvK7KReEVPjk0wvV0uwH17O8Na4mTk-Iahqach_MdUsvbKMxoqrvmHvfulrRQmiID40WJnCf4BWtfEV2/s1600/button+turkey+%25286%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGAyzY9XC9h9qmNJcws9LnbBpHYvns6llI29XXL0nJmWGgqEr8XIXql7I6wkHbGvK7KReEVPjk0wvV0uwH17O8Na4mTk-Iahqach_MdUsvbKMxoqrvmHvfulrRQmiID40WJnCf4BWtfEV2/s400/button+turkey+%25286%2529.JPG" width="352" /></a></div>
Great fine motor practice and color-matching activity!<br />

If you were reading this blog back in <a href="http://tippytoecrafts.blogspot.com/2015/05/handprint-butterfly-gift-for-teachers.html" target="_blank">May</a>, you know I left the center I was teaching at and stayed home with my daughter for the summer. At the end of the summer, as I applied for new positions, I realized I didn't want to teach in a center anymore. So I became a nanny for a wonderful family instead. They have a 3-year-old daughter and an 18-month-old son. My daughter is 2-and-a-half so she fits in nicely. Although I love teaching and often miss being in a classroom, I am very happy with my decision. And I still get to do a lot of what I did in the classroom anyway. (But no more class displays -- boo hoo.)
<br />
<br />
Now on to the art...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYTsZvUR6wH-W0uMX7ha4AtjXxDpyntN9Ei5CcCR6IQ_vShkdmuzMnZswW9ZxTB7Hxa9H8gdQkKWgjXrTdkEmbxjmz5oXpXirgy617NkV6Yeh_or9gtgT7N1ZLlMRjSer7FpnBHxcfpg2m/s1600/nature+faces+%25285%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYTsZvUR6wH-W0uMX7ha4AtjXxDpyntN9Ei5CcCR6IQ_vShkdmuzMnZswW9ZxTB7Hxa9H8gdQkKWgjXrTdkEmbxjmz5oXpXirgy617NkV6Yeh_or9gtgT7N1ZLlMRjSer7FpnBHxcfpg2m/s320/nature+faces+%25285%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I noticed the red leaves from a burning bush looked like lips, so I thought it would be fun to make faces out of things from nature. Most of the leaves have already fallen off the trees where I live, but there are a few still hanging on. We took a walk to collect some items that we thought would be good for our project. Then we got to work gluing the items on to resemble a face.
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrqUcwoscIMbK0GGDW2MDBTxqm77nmI1BPLWSQOeqkvSfSA9HY-IVK9Q-LzHcl2m98ieNecm-BbkUcVJLxgWk6Gw6wo4zJpthzysQh9_XiF7NDgGr2v2ipHf1AE2-vyBPwqALafa7wtqDJ/s1600/nature+faces+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="232" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrqUcwoscIMbK0GGDW2MDBTxqm77nmI1BPLWSQOeqkvSfSA9HY-IVK9Q-LzHcl2m98ieNecm-BbkUcVJLxgWk6Gw6wo4zJpthzysQh9_XiF7NDgGr2v2ipHf1AE2-vyBPwqALafa7wtqDJ/s320/nature+faces+%25283%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I put markers out to add in other details, but it's not necessary. Here's one I made before I drew anything in:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcyXt8jPEuQW-SQPjFPfjCcdmDombkTDh60E1mSS5YTKH4HcqeLvSjnt4IQvr7UAEHRzNkjVNjlKLy5B719L5q2Y5_0hfm1b21yKxfChQ3-rcQ7tv7PVnjJVH8a9_aVsox9OtmEb19y3vc/s1600/nature+faces+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="232" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcyXt8jPEuQW-SQPjFPfjCcdmDombkTDh60E1mSS5YTKH4HcqeLvSjnt4IQvr7UAEHRzNkjVNjlKLy5B719L5q2Y5_0hfm1b21yKxfChQ3-rcQ7tv7PVnjJVH8a9_aVsox9OtmEb19y3vc/s320/nature+faces+%25281%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
And then after:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTCDsH0w5Pop8YLczk_TJj8QDgDKr2n2MRGfKfdLmduDQ2XVqd7QpLkJFfpxQ1R4B6THZhfxWO4uRvS6eLJQp2HYObDsJKi0Q3T-58_iZPomzhTCcAiG642l-0ta0Obo-eF9puQlEW_bQw/s1600/nature+faces+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="229" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTCDsH0w5Pop8YLczk_TJj8QDgDKr2n2MRGfKfdLmduDQ2XVqd7QpLkJFfpxQ1R4B6THZhfxWO4uRvS6eLJQp2HYObDsJKi0Q3T-58_iZPomzhTCcAiG642l-0ta0Obo-eF9puQlEW_bQw/s320/nature+faces+%25282%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
It just adds a little something. We had a lot of fun!<br />

Last year at her day care she made a monster with candy corn teeth (similar to <a href="http://www.craftymorning.com/candy-corn-monster-craft-halloween/" target="_blank">this one</a> from Crafty Morning), but I didn't save it long because of the candy. So when I found these craft candy corn pieces at Hobby Lobby, I thought we could make another monster with them and be able to save it with the rest of our Halloween decorations.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkutFNIT7hUerzO2rTrZ3P1SmGP5zF9yyir6sABxjK6WEGheP-WVhgy8791-tiF_3F0k60-LnRdyB7NU5J87gnFUYROG5yhP7i2PnHigk8jshka67voJacsmfsWyKFOZp65SCCKtcDAZkj/s1600/monsters+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="353" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkutFNIT7hUerzO2rTrZ3P1SmGP5zF9yyir6sABxjK6WEGheP-WVhgy8791-tiF_3F0k60-LnRdyB7NU5J87gnFUYROG5yhP7i2PnHigk8jshka67voJacsmfsWyKFOZp65SCCKtcDAZkj/s400/monsters+%25283%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
She and a friend made their own monsters. I asked what color they wanted for the body, horns, arms and feet and cut everything free-hand from construction paper. They glued on all the pieces. I set out a bunch of wiggle eyes for them to choose from, as well.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifie290dKH_Wtw2GDlnKxm8a6kWJYGtE1mRUS4Bzgq1dqMzyTmudezov30VlPNHY_0q_lKneXNE8n-hBRQijRKiHIAPyVRn8U_C4RNIWh7f5jDOAvB5ohapUflvPCaQ801NNkV2k_G8FVp/s1600/monsters+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="327" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifie290dKH_Wtw2GDlnKxm8a6kWJYGtE1mRUS4Bzgq1dqMzyTmudezov30VlPNHY_0q_lKneXNE8n-hBRQijRKiHIAPyVRn8U_C4RNIWh7f5jDOAvB5ohapUflvPCaQ801NNkV2k_G8FVp/s400/monsters+%25281%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEithK9_QKeXK06vuBv5S2BnOibNTDi2j2Dy_YvP-gUhRYdZi9WpzlG-m5aaajLpQMGvIIYu3ktOSfO2M2mOUvhrsJ1fchNrbfO0R2_-EQaW3Kh0XDeRpD8Jlngfjlvrg2JRadNW9S7DgPqg/s1600/monsters+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEithK9_QKeXK06vuBv5S2BnOibNTDi2j2Dy_YvP-gUhRYdZi9WpzlG-m5aaajLpQMGvIIYu3ktOSfO2M2mOUvhrsJ1fchNrbfO0R2_-EQaW3Kh0XDeRpD8Jlngfjlvrg2JRadNW9S7DgPqg/s400/monsters+%25282%2529.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
Then I put dots of glue inside the mouth for the kids to place the fake candy corn.<br />

I found these jeweled spider rings at Target and I thought they'd be cute for a spider web craft. Plus I knew my daughter would love wearing them.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRlBlHhKSbdtXpIMHHFRD2RkidovvY9BDEngCO4pagP9L-0LU1eNddmvHFRmrQkjHzVzNsoXTg1v1yHTJuakl7TqD6YIfN0Ev2hOM0qBtZKqo3aK0pFgXXAY6mkYSB4ySFgZInMuhZDoF6/s1600/glitterwebs+%25285%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="272" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRlBlHhKSbdtXpIMHHFRD2RkidovvY9BDEngCO4pagP9L-0LU1eNddmvHFRmrQkjHzVzNsoXTg1v1yHTJuakl7TqD6YIfN0Ev2hOM0qBtZKqo3aK0pFgXXAY6mkYSB4ySFgZInMuhZDoF6/s320/glitterwebs+%25285%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
We used sturdy paper plates for this craft, but any thick paper would work. Start by making your web with Elmer's white glue.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjREcYGI4IRheP_NYAg_lAt1dojKUqGwf8_nQrw5Zu-6-FlfY5BSt7fA6Zf1YoVPzL4qvrvaIgJRPhPlSJAZmzoAoP_jZPkpBQMBRSoYDKXi4TiNvLMGyIpWh_fRgU044EYhIsbmZ5XrA1/s1600/glitterwebs+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="281" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjREcYGI4IRheP_NYAg_lAt1dojKUqGwf8_nQrw5Zu-6-FlfY5BSt7fA6Zf1YoVPzL4qvrvaIgJRPhPlSJAZmzoAoP_jZPkpBQMBRSoYDKXi4TiNvLMGyIpWh_fRgU044EYhIsbmZ5XrA1/s320/glitterwebs+%25281%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Younger kids can just put a bunch of glue on their plate any way they'd like. Then shake on the glitter.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsG3e8Kb3PJR8_hrIhyO-0dp2mSwBiSClDZjUtSCX83uDcxuCaWT72LCF_FjNgbWAIBvG6MOEIkSnZaazljgp6uxOykak5UGRNVxGYadfm_WNL7FDD05nqpDdn5CuuBG1YVll6F_8iGB6B/s1600/glitterwebs+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsG3e8Kb3PJR8_hrIhyO-0dp2mSwBiSClDZjUtSCX83uDcxuCaWT72LCF_FjNgbWAIBvG6MOEIkSnZaazljgp6uxOykak5UGRNVxGYadfm_WNL7FDD05nqpDdn5CuuBG1YVll6F_8iGB6B/s320/glitterwebs+%25283%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiionpvjOuv6QB_auOavJJLAp5ld-CzHT-0h6ce66v_GpTFPtj1z-eVVO0DOzRhSEoc68n-tuh4tOV1XZjFCajHLEKPTI97KvGR0VBq66EWDwncaYvFB-n7wuxaxLOPWcO1pJ5NpME5qXIP/s1600/glitterwebs+%25284%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiionpvjOuv6QB_auOavJJLAp5ld-CzHT-0h6ce66v_GpTFPtj1z-eVVO0DOzRhSEoc68n-tuh4tOV1XZjFCajHLEKPTI97KvGR0VBq66EWDwncaYvFB-n7wuxaxLOPWcO1pJ5NpME5qXIP/s320/glitterwebs+%25284%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
This is where the paper plate really came in handy. It helped contain the glitter. You can even shake it around on your plate to make sure all the glue gets covered.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqvphPA9tQ7rAQk7Tkxr-qA7lUe58DnpCBPZ3oomvkRGMNPlGzXnS7zzVFlyVUZXpZ4rtKSL5JY4JZixzgjre4Gqv7m3gsVvXlBbqbqBG2IEjauwWo-Jd33g6k27RR11Hr727Pg23zDL2n/s1600/glitterwebs+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqvphPA9tQ7rAQk7Tkxr-qA7lUe58DnpCBPZ3oomvkRGMNPlGzXnS7zzVFlyVUZXpZ4rtKSL5JY4JZixzgjre4Gqv7m3gsVvXlBbqbqBG2IEjauwWo-Jd33g6k27RR11Hr727Pg23zDL2n/s320/glitterwebs+%25282%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Then quickly dump the excess glitter in the garbage or another container if you wish to save it. Now it's time to add your spiders! I cut off the ring parts of the spiders so they'd be flat on the plate. I also used glue dots, but regular glue is fine, too. Wait for the glue to dry and your sparkly spider web is complete!<br />

I'm thinking of punching a hole in the top and putting string through so I can hang them somewhere. They're cute halloween decorations!Betsyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17813144709372927909noreply@blogger.com0
